Titan Quest Game – PlayStation, Xbox One 2022

Titan Quest is a Microsoft Windows action role-playing hack and slash video game developed by Iron Lore Entertainment. It was released in 2006 by THQ. It was first released on Steam in 2007, and was later ported to mobile devices by DotEmu in 2016; later versions were published by THQ Nordic. In 2018, versions for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch were released.  The plot follows a player-created protagonist as they travel through Ancient Greece, Egypt, and China in search of the Titans, who have escaped from their ancient prison. The gameplay is similar to the Diablo series, with player navigation handled via a tile-based mouse interface.

Game designer Brian Sullivan envisioned Titan Quest as a role-playing game set in Ancient Greece, similar to Age of Mythology. Following a successful pitch to THQ, production began in 2004. Randall Wallace wrote the script, and Sullivan served as the designer. Despite being in a mythical setting, the team wanted the environments and towns to feel as realistic as possible, which necessitated extensive research into ancient cultures. Enemies were inspired by regional mythologies in the game, with designs inspired by Ray Harryhausen’s stop-motion work. Scott Morton and Michael Verrette composed the music to avoid the looping tracks found in other games.

Titan Quest is an action role-playing game set in the pre-Roman Ancient World, including Ancient Greece, Egypt, and the Silk Road that connects Asia. Players control an avatar, which they can customize with their gender, name, and tunic color.  An overhead third-person view is used to navigate the three-dimensional world, with the player character controlled with the mouse via a point-and-click interface, and abilities mapped to keyboard buttons. A “Fog of War” effect obscures the environment by blacking out unexplored areas on the minimal. Text tutorials for various gameplay elements are unlocked gradually throughout the game and can be viewed at any time.

Players gain experience points as they progress by defeating enemies and completing quests for non-player characters (NPCs) scattered throughout the environment: these raise a character’s experience level, granting access to new skills and points that can be used to upgrade character attributes such as health and energy levels, dexterity, intelligence, or strength. If the player dies, they will respawn at one of the rebirth fountains scattered throughout the world, but they will lose some of their accumulated experience points. Quests are divided into two categories: main quests related to the central narrative and side quests unique to specific regions of the world.

Release of Titan Quest

Titan Quest was first announced in May 2005, and it made its public debut at that year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo. The game was released in North America on June 26, 2006, and in Europe on June 30, 2006. According to Bruno, the ESRB initially rated the game as “M for Mature” due to the scantily clad Nymph familiar, but the rating was later changed to its current one. The game was released in Japan on September 1, 2006, in English with the manual translated into Japanese. THQ released the game and its expansion on Steam on July 17, 2007. Titan Quest Gold Edition, an updated version, was released on October 22, 2007 in the West and April 25, 2008 in Japan.

It included the main game as well as its expansion. Nordic Games purchased the Titan Quest intellectual property after THQ began selling off its shares following its bankruptcy in 2013. Nordic Games began supporting the game’s Steam version with patches in 2016 to address gameplay and multiplayer issues, as well as glitches and bugs.

DotEmu, a French developer who had previously developed a successful mobile port of Ys Chronicles I, developed a port of Titan Quest for mobile devices under license from Nordic Games. The team spent months redesigning the controls and interface from the ground up to work with touchscreen controls. Despite the changes, the team worked hard to keep the gameplay as close to the original as possible. They also added new actions, such as targeting enemies with mastery abilities and searching for loot. It was released for iOS on May 19, 2016. On July 7, the Android version was released.
